StudentBuddy plays a pivotal role in advancing digital inclusion by providing solar-powered USB charging ports that ensure students and families in underserved communities can keep essential devices operational.
This reliable source of power helps bridge the digital divide by enabling access to online educational resources, digital communication tools, and market information. By facilitating connectivity, StudentBuddy empowers individuals to participate in the digital economy, access learning opportunities, and improve their overall quality of life, fostering greater inclusion in the digital world regardless of geographical or economic barriers.
Teams taking part in StudentBuddy PowerUP will advance communities, and illuminate futures.
Working in teams, participants will assemble a StudentBuddy device which will be gifted to communities in developing countries. Participants will also learn about energy poverty and the effects it has on people around the world in areas of education, health, environment and economically.
Teams will learn how innovative designed solar solutions can combat those four pillars of energy poverty.
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, this program includes a compelling presentation, assembly of StudentBuddy devices by each participant and connecting with communities living in energy poverty with a letter writing activity which will be packaged as a gift!
At the end of this session, the StudentBuddy devices are returned for quality assurance before their journey begins to a distribution country. SolarBuddy’s NGO Partner distributes the gift of light into the hands of children living in energy poverty.
